EXPERIENCE
Lecturer of Legal Writing and Legal English Programme Director
Qatar University College of Law: Doha, Qatar, September 2011 to Present
·    Designed and taught the first-semester Legal Research and Writing course for English as a second language Qatari undergraduates.
·    Designed and taught the first-semester Legal English Laboratory course attached to the Legal Research and Writing course. The ‘Lab’ is designed as an English as a Second Language learning experience that supports the legal writing class.
·    Designed and taught a sequence of six English grammar workshops to supplement classroom English language learning.
·    Consulted and advised the Dean on Legal English planning and curriculum issues.
·    Developed a set of multi-level ten-week English as second language courses for new College of Law students, whose English language ability ranges widely.

ESL Coordinator & Clinical Assistant Professor of Law
Northwestern University School of Law: Chicago, Illinois, 2005 to 2011
·    Created, developed and managed English as a second language programs and support for the 150-175 international students attending the law school. This included developing and managing ESL discussion groups, a writing tutor program, and small-scale classes in listening/pronunciation and ‘essay grammar.’
·    Created and developed the Legal English and Foundations program, a four-week intensive legal English program for entering LLMs.
·    Created and presented workshops on how to tutor advanced ESL legal writers and on effective and systematic proofreading and editing.
·    Faculty Advisor and instructor for the 4-credit ‘International Team Project UAE’ course (Spring 2011)

Truman College (of the City Colleges of Chicago): Chicago, Illinois, Spring, 2006
·    Taught the 6-credit ESL course in which a passing grade allows entry into academic classes.
·    Designed and effectively administered the required portfolio-style evaluation process for the combined reading and writing course.

EAP Assistant Coordinator                                                                            
Lakeland College Japan: Tokyo, Japan, 2003-2005
·    Directed 120-student intensive English for Academic Purposes program that prepared students for study at Lakeland College, Wisconsin and at its Tokyo branch campus. Modified curriculum to strengthen its emphasis on contextualized vocabulary development; instituted classroom assessment of discussion skills; directed and supervised instructors in order to achieve the program’s academic purposes and goals. Program achieved large increases in TOEFL and TWE scores, and in anecdotal measures of academic discussion skills.
·    Instituted practices and programs that created a learning atmosphere of realistic optimism, with stable time management and study habits inculcated in all students, especially low-motivation “at-risk” students.
·    Taught classes in all academic English skill areas.

EAP Coordinator    
NIC: Tokyo, Japan, 1998-2000
·    Supervised 600-student one-year intensive English for Academic Purposes program that prepares students for academic study at U.S. universities. Duties included constructing and carrying out the program’s logistical, academic and assessment planning.
·    Hired and supervised instructors, assisting their development by employing observation, counseling, written student comments, and instructor reflection and self-assessment.
·    Taught classes in all academic English skill areas.

·    Taught classes in all skills in the one-year intensive academic English program.
·    Contributed to school management, in particular to assessment and curriculum revision.
